Leonard Joyce gave the Rappahannock Supervisors the cost for building a landfill with a 10-year capacity at the county-owned Stover tract near Amissville and it comes to $479,959. That’s some $240,000 more than the allocation in this year’s budget for land acquisition, development, and waste collection.
“The total estimated cost is where we thought it would be,” administrative assistant John McCarthy noted at last week’s special meeting between the engineer and the board. “But we’ve already spent some of that, so some of the money is going to have to come from next year’s revenues,” he said, adding that portions of the work can also be put off until the start of the next fiscal year.
The county’s spending plan for 1988 allocates $450,000 for landfill site purchase and development and $200,000 for solid waste collection and removal.
