CMH offers f

prenatal class

A series of six free classes for expectant parents will begin March 2 and run through April 6 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital. Presented in cooperation with the Culpeper County Health Department, the Preparation for Parenthood Course will be held Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the hospital board room.

Designed for expectant parents who want to learn about the process of childbirth and related topics, the course is sponsored by the March of Dimes and follows Red Cross guidelines. JoAnne Russell, RN, and Ruth Partlow, LPN, will discuss prenatal care, Lamaze breathing techniques, medications and drugs, labor and delivery, postpartum care, and newborn care.

Participants in the series will view a film on childbirth and take a tour of the obstetric unit at CMH, including the birthing room and the labor and delivery suite.

A breastfeeding follow-up class will also be offered free of charge on Friday, April 15.

To register for these classes, call the Matemal/Child Health department at Culpeper Memorial Hospital, 703-829-4113. The classes are free to residents of Rappahannock, Culpeper, Orange, Madison and Fauquier counties.
