The final estimates are in from Richmond and the proposed $3,871,698 school budget for 1988-89 has been forwarded to the county Board of Supervisors. It anticipates $1,334,007 in state funds, a 16.7 percent increase over this year, and calls for $1,940,360 in local funds, a 12 percent increase.
Federal aid is expected to be up 12 percent, to $214,750, and sales tax revenue up seven percent, to $375,318.
The budget includes an eight percent pay raise for all school employees (applied to the bases of the experience pay scale for teachers and the proposed new pay scale for administrators). The proposal would put beginning teacher salaries here at $17,677. This year, starting teachers received $16,358; by comparison, first year teachers in surrounding counties got $18,170 (Fauquier), $17,050 (Page), $16,577 (Madison), $18,460 (Orange), $17,299 (Culpeper), and $17,600 (Warren).
