of Simon Bolivar, South America’s famous freedom fighter known as “The Liberator.” His trail begins in the center of Caracas, where the Spanish colonial home in which he was born in 1783 has been restored as a national monument. Not far away, Bolivar is buried in the National Pantheon, a place of pilgrimage for people from all over Latin America.
While visiting Caracas, the group will also tour the “tovar,” which is an early German settlement area, and learn about the problems of the Latin American “melting pot.” Before leaving the capital city, students will have an opportunity to view the largest private collection of Pre-Columbian art in the world at the home of their classmate Mikhail Mannil, a Venezuelan student presently in his junior year at Wakefield.
From Caracas the tour will proceed by bus to Valencia, Puerto Cabello and Maracay. While staying in this region, students will see several sights of interest, including the
