During the weekend of March 11, -the Webelos Den froihi Cub Scout Back 123 of Washington took a camping trip on the property of Pete and Sandra Jenkins of Flint Hill. ” Members of the den attending were Mark Jenkins, Raymond Williams, Leif Anderson, Jason Brown, Daniel Dodson and Timothy O’Meara. They were accompanied by adult leaders Pete Jenkins, Paul 'Nichols, Julian Brown, C. E. Dodson and their Den Leader Ken Welk. - Sunday morning services were led by Rev. Larry Hovis of the Washington Baptist Church. Den Chief Paul Brown assisted in training and leading the games played by the Webelos Scouts.
The object of the weekend’s camping and fun was for the scouts to earn the Readyman and Outdoorsman activity badges.
To earn the Readyman activity badge, the Webelos had to follow the Boy Scout motto, “Be Prepared.” The scouts successfully learned how to get help for certain problems such as fire, medical emergencies, family problems and police help. They learned fire, bike and swimming safety. They also participated in a very educational First Aid lesson taught by Julian Brown.
For the Outdoorsman activity badge, the scouts had to tie five specific knots (square, bowline, clove hitch, two half hitches, and taut-line hitch), take part in an overnight camp, participate in an evening outdoor activity, including a campfire, while learning and practicing fire safety and helping to cook meals, including the clean-up afterwards.
