PTA to preview 6Hugs and Kisses’
An important RCES PTA meeting will be held in the school’s library on Tuesday, April 5. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. this month due to a special preview of the video play Hugs and Kisses which will be shown to RCES students April 22. Hugs and Kisses is sponsored by Theater 4 from Richmond. According to psychologist John Borgens, it is a delightful and healthy play designed to teach children about their private areas that should not be touched by others. Following the preview of the video, voting for next year’s officers will take place. Margaret Bridges, regional vice-president from Fredericksburg, will conduct the installation of new officers. Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell will conclude the meeting with a special presentation on state testing of county students. All members and concerned parents are encouraged to attend this informative meeting.
Democrats caucus April 11
The Rappahannock County Democratic Committee will hold a caucus at 7:30 p.m. April 11 at the Courthouse in Washington to elect delegates and alternates to the Seventh District and State Democratic Conventions. See the ad elsewhere in this paper for details.
Hunter education at RCES
The Virginia Game Commission will sponsor a hunter education and safety course at the elementary school on Saturday, April 23, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The course is free and open to the public. Hunters are reminded that, beginning July 1, the course will be required for all first-time hunters and any hunter 16 years of age or younger. Students are particularly encouraged to attend this course.
Fodderstack Classic 10K
The 10th running of the Fodderstack Classic 10K Road Race will be held Saturday, April 16, at 10 a.m. Start is at Flint Hill, finishing outside the courthouse in Washington. Pre-registration is $8, $10 day of race. T-shirts and trophies will be awarded. Video on ‘Don’t Say Suicide’
Family Worship Center’s youth group New Generation will be showing the video “Don’t Say Suicide” on Saturday, April 2, at 7 p.m. “We encourage everyone to come and hear God’s answer to the problem of suicide,” said a church spokesperson.
‘My Beautiful Laundrette’
The movie My Beautiful Laundrette will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 2 and 3. A daring social commentary from England, My Beautiful Laundrette takes an uncompromising look at life in the slums of South London. Gordon Wamecke stars as a hustling Pakistani immigrant who, with the help of his childhood friend Johnny (Daniel Day Lewis), transforms a seedy laundrette into a gaudy, neon-lit palace. In a city where Pakistani immigrants and alienated natives are constantly at odds, Omar and Johnny struggle to keep their business thriving and their personal relationship alive. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

Va. Museum Artmobile to visit
The Virginia Museum’s traveling show, “Reflections,” is spending five days in Rappahannock County. The artmobile is parked in Washington and is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge and the public is invited.
