A native of Culpeper County, he was the son of Elzie R. Compton of Rixeyville and Ethel Settle Compton of Culpeper.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife Mrs. Anna Mae Peyton Compton, a daughter Denise Mae Compton of Amissville, four sons, Harold William Compton, Luther Miller Compton, Ronnie Robson Compton and Robbie Hamilton Compton, all of Amissville, two brothers, David R. Compton and E. Leon Compton, Rixeyville, two sisters, Mrs. Patrica Byfield of Falls Church and Deborah Compton of Culpepfer, and his grandmothers, Mrs. Eliza Settle of Amissville and Mrs. Ada C. Hitt of Rixeyville.
A funeral was conducted March . 30 at Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper, with interment in the Compton family cemetery near Rixeyville.
Pallbearers were Gerald Settle, Steven Settle, Ricky Settle, Richard Compton, Ronnie Settle and William Settle.
