Continued from Page 1 of 132nd among the state’s 134 school divisions in average salary, the Rappahannock School Board went one percent over the minimum which will be afforded to teachers in all Virginia localities.
Rappahannock is also receiving more from the state this year as measured by percentage increase, a situation which Superintendent David Gangel attributes primarily to a new upward trend in school enrollment. According to figures from Richmond, Fauquier will receive 2 percent more in state aid. Orange 4.5 percent, Warren 6.2 percent, Culpeper 7.8 percent, and Madison 9.7 percent. Only three Virginia counties — Accomack, Lunenburg, and Highland — are projected to get larger percentage increases in state aid than Rappahannock in 1988-89.
Other highlights of the 1988-89 budget, which is up 13 percent over the current year’s $3,407,792 spending plan, include:
• One new teaching post at the elementary school intended as a combination art teacher and gifted and talented program coordinator unless higher-than-expected enrollment requires the addition of a fourth kindergarten class.
