Arbor Day is celebrated in most states on the last Friday in April and many communities have observed the day by developing parkland areas which can be enjoyed by generations to come. We may not live to see the fruits of our labor but those who follow will, and if we today do not have the foresight to plan ahead, who will?
Perhaps the cardinal rule in gardening during the early spring months is to hold off getting out in the garden too soon before the soil is warm and dry enough. Soil that is cold and damp will not produce good results and you’ll do better to wait a week or two. Raised beds have the advantage of drying out earlier than conventional arrangements.
