In accord with the federal government’s latest mandate on asbestos abatement, Rappahannock schools were checked by a licensed asbestos inspector who has since completed the asbestos plan required to be submitted to Richmond by Oct. 11.
“There are no surprises in this report,” Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell told the School Board at last Tuesday’s meeting, adding that the document would be hand-delivered the next day to meet the deadline set in the federal AHERA Act.
No surprise doesn’t mean no asbestos, however.
The material is present in both public schools, according to Mr. Chappell, who serves as asbestos coordinator for the School Board, a post also mandated by federal regulations.
