Engineers give
Rt. 211 a 'go'
In its way up the decision-making ladder, the proposed dual-laning of Route 211 has won two endorsements with two more to go before the long-delayed project is assured of completion.
The transcript from this summer’s local public hearing on the 4.4 miles of divided highway between Washington and SperryviUe, plus other documentation on the $9.6 million project, went to Ricmond with a recommendation from District Engineer Thomas Farley for proceeding. The file has since been reviewed by the state’s location and design engineer, E.C. Cochran, at the Virginia Department of Transportation’s headquarters and received another favorable recommendation.
Currently, it is being studied by VDOTs chief engineer, J.S. Hodge, who will take his recommendation and the question of whether to finish the dual-laning of the arterial highway to the Transportation Board for a final decision.
The board meets on Oct. 26 at Natural Bridge. According to Fred James, Culpeper District’s location and design engineer, it is not certain whether the ruling will come at that meeting or the board’s session in November.
