Hospice annual meeting
Elizabeth Callari, R.N., B.S.N., is the guest speaker for Hospice of the Rapidan’s annual membership meeting to be held on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Precious Blood Catholic Church in Culpeper. Ms. Callari, a noted speaker, will address “Opening the Heart into Service." Board members will be elected at this meeting. All members are asked to attend. Ironweed
The movie Ironweed will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Academy Award-winners Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep, who charmed audiences in Heartburn. The two do a dramatic about-face in this compelling screen adaptation of William Kennedy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Nicholson gives a powerful performance as an alcoholic, Depression-era ex-baseball player who returns to his home town after spending 22 years trying to run away from his past. Streep is remarkable as a fellow down-and-outer who joins Nicholson in his desperate struggle to survive. Directed by Hector Babenco (Kiss of the Spider Woman). The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Woman's Club to meet
The Rappahannock Woman’s Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. at the home of Kim Ho vis on Mt. Salem Avenue in Washington. All members are urged to attend.
Exercise star to visit area
Beverly of the nationally syndicated television show “Beverly Exercise” seen on WTKK TV-66 at 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. weekdays will be at Taylor Jr. High School in Warrenton on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. and at Culpeper High School on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. She will be sharing her personal testimony and speaking on health and nutrition. RCES Book Fair
The Rappahannock County Elementary School will hold its semiannual Book Fair from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2 in the school library. Students will be allowed to browse and select from a wide variety of books for all age levels. Daytime hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The library will also be open from 2:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 during parent-teacher conferences to allow parents to attend the event as well. Money raised from the Book Fair will be used by the library to provide services for children. Librarian Aney Massie added that children will be bringing home copies of Book Fair News, which lists the books available. Parents who are unable to attend the Book Fair may wish to order books from the newsletter, Mrs. Massie suggested. For more information about the Book Fair, contact Mrs. Massie at RCES (9878259).
