RCES has 93 students (16 percent of enrollment) and RCHS 63 students (17 perceht) in the new remedial math and reading program. The numbers are lower than originally anticipated, due to the “testout” provision afforded students. On this retest administered shortly after school began, many students bettered their performances and moved out of both the bottom quartile and the remedial classes, according to Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell. “I don’t have the figures for every grade level, but I recall thatforninth grade, more tested out than stayed in,” he told the School Board at last week’s meeting.
