During summer, the floors beneath the friable asbestos must be wet cleaned and all desks and other surfaces must be wiped down, the assistant superintendent said. “But those are practices we’re already following.” Otherwise, “We simply have to keep an eye on the spots (where both friable and non-friable asbestos occur) to make sure there’s no deterioration.”

As asbestos coordinator, Mr. Chappell will also have to inspect the schools every six months and notify contractors working in the building of all asbestos locations. In addition, he told the School Board, a licensed inspector must check the schools again every three years and update the plan.
