. The Rappahannock County school system ended the 1988-89 fiscal year with $32,120 on hand that will revert to the county’s general fund.
In addition, School Superintendent David Gangel told the School Board at its pay out meeting June 29, “We’ll receive monies for this school year after the school year is over.” These revenues from the state will be arriving in July and possibly as late as August and will probably amount to more than $55,000, he said.
With better than $87,000 in monies intended for education going to the county’s general fund, School Board Chariman Beverly Massie said, “As a School Board, we would look favorably on it if they would put the money in an account to be used for future needs of the schools.”
“Not this year,” said Hampton District representative Bryant Lee. “They need the money too much.”
“I know they need it, but I feel that money earmarked for education should be spent on education.” Mrs. Massie said.
