netted 42 plants worth an estimated $42,000, according to Fauquier County Sheriff Ashby Olinger. The plants were found in a 10 foot by 10 foot parcel off of Route 637 near • Goldvein. No arrrests were made, Sheriff Olinger said.
Each helicopter was supported by a fuel truck and ground crew. The National Guard also provided a fourwheel drive truck to carry the confiscated plants.
Sheriff Woodward explained that the county-wide overflights which have been done every year were modified somewhat this year. Before the operation began, the sheriff/ Capt. Streapy and Deputy Todd Brown met with the State Police team at the Rappahannock County' Park to suggest additional locations to search.
"We searched areas where we had rumors of illegal activity, and places which in the past had been ‘hot spots’,” Capt. Streapy said.
The busts Tuesday broke a dry spell for the search parties, which had found no patches of marijuana ip either Rappahannock or Fauquier ' counties last year.
Sheriff Woodward estimated the value of the marijuana confiscated Tuesday at between $50,000 and $60,000. Blanchard was released Tuesday evening after he posted a $10,000 cash bond.
