To the editor:
The timing was perfect. On the eve of Independence Day, Tom Von Fange and Jon Heddleston asked the County Supervisors to restrict our freedom. They want to deny, entirely or in part, our access to cable TV. And why? Well, their reasons don’t add up to much.
Reason #1: The poor would spend money on cable rather than on toilets. Short Answer #1: Some might, others won't. Those that would, have the right to do so; they are no less free because of being poor.
Reason #2: Students who watch too much TV already would watch even more. Short Answer #2: Most can’t. They don’t have the time.
Reason #3: Children would see stuff that is bad for them in somebody else’s house. Short Answer #3: JVfew would see some television that ffieir parents thought was bad for tEem. But not many would; few adults allow visiting children to wfatch adult materials, t * The overall answer is, of course, that the reasons are irrelevant. That
to say, the short version of the Jo*ng answer is “So what!” Why should we all be denied cable because some might,.according to some others, abuse it?
