Surviving are two daughters, Gladys Moore, Warrenton and Rosa Payne, Washington, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warrenton Rescue Squad.
Thomas Wharton Thomas Haywood Wharton, 61, of Castleton, an employee of the Virginia Department of Highways, died July 9 at his residence. A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of Mrs. Josie Corbin Wharton of Woodville and the late Oscar Thomas Wharton. He was a member of the Rappahannock Coon Club. Hais survived by his wife, Rosie . Tharp Wharton; his mother; two sisters, Lillie Johnson and Geneva Burke, both of Woodville; and three brothers, Henry Wharton, .Culpeper, and James Wharton, Chester Gap. A funeral was held July 12 at the graveside in Washington Masonic Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Richards officiating. Pallbearers were Doug Bywaters, Bud Corder, Emory C. Russell, Ronnie Parker, Widdie Tharp and Harvey Tharp. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of the Rapidan. Geest-Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
