Why should we all be required to give up something valuable (public television, C-SPAN, foreign language programming, etc. because of someone else’s value system?
And, finally, should we all suffer because some parents don’t feel that they have adequate control over their own children?
Then there is the matter of the Playboy Channel. The notion expressed by Tom Von Fange, that three minutes exposure to it could destroy the Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum is, quite simply, ludicrous. If the Playboy Channel harms anybody, it is more likely to harm the uneducated child rather than the educated one.
Moreover, the Playboy Channel won’t harm anybody who does not watch it. Messrs. Von Fange and Heddleston and their families need not watch it.
Whether I watch it is none of their business. Whether I can watch it is none of their business either. Censorship is censorship, plain and simple. And freedom from censorship is one of the many great freedoms we celebrate on Independence Day.
