Monday, treasurer Helen Platt was authorized to invest the money until it is needed for the building with the advice of Jamie Jamieson.
The board also voted to appoint Elizabeth Jones as acting librarian until a new librarian is hired. Mrs. Jones has been serving as a parttime assistant librarian. Library Board chairman William Young noting that the board had hoped to hire a fully certified librarian, said, “We're not getting much from our ads for a librarian. The two that have responded wanted about twice as much money as was budgeted.”
Board member Grace Sims said that with Mrs. Jones and Francis Tabler working part time and some volunteer help, there were not enough hours being covered to continue keeping the library' open as much as it has been. She made a motion to close the library on Mondays for the rest of the summer. The motion passed.
Dr. Young noted that representatives of the Library Board will be going to Richmond July 22 to make ■their presentation in support of the grant proposal. They expect to hear in August if they were successful.
