or the second time last month, Potomac Edison implemented emergency procedures and on June 27 reduced voltage on its electrical system when demand for energy from other mid-Atlantic utility customers reached critical levels.
This five-percent voltage reduction during the afternoon of June 27 helped to prevent voltage collapse or thermal overloads and is part of a four-level Reliability Coordination Plan. Through this plan, Potomac Edison and its parent company, the Allegheny Power System, cooperate with other utilities in Virginia, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
