Mr. Dodson explained why it was important to elect a president and commissioners who are not coaches but may be parents of players. “This will enable coaches to focus on what they do best - coach,” he said. Further, he explained, the new position of vice president makes one person responsible for tournament information and play, “a big job,” he added.
Upon installation of the new board, Kellert asked board members to be “managers,” enlisting the support of parents of players, and interested citizens. “People are more than willing to be involved if they’re asked, but they must be asked,” he said. Emphasizing the need for more parental involvement, Kellert said, “Our goal shouldn’t be for a few of us to do all the work, but for many of us to do a little.”
The RAA board of directors will meet again, 7:30 p.m., Jan. 11 at Rappahannock County High School. “We’ll strive to do this winter what we’d normally do in the spring,” Kellert concluded.
