Chemists from James Madison will test water during the study, and the Virginia fisheries personnel will check results before deciding if the stream is safe enough to restock trout prior to the 1990 fishing season.
“These studies help us understand the impact of acid rain on mountain streams,” said Wayne Kelley, George Washington National Forest supervisor. “Even more importantly, they help show what can be done to stabilize water chemistry to protect aquatic life and fish production.”
