On Friday, Wilder announced his selection of Paul W. Timmreck to serve as his secretary of finance and Karen F. Washabau to serve as his director of the Department of Planning and Budget.
Timmreck, who has served in state government for 14 years, currently holds the position of director of Planning and Budget. He has also served as a division chief of the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC), the staff director of the Senate Finance Committee, and the deputy secretary of Administration and Finance. Timmreck is replacing Secretary of Finance Stuart W. Connock.
“It’s a profound honor,” said Timmreck, “and it will be a real pleasure to serve in [Wilder’s] administration.”
Washabau is presently the director of the Department of Personnel and Training after having served three years as the deputy secretary of finance.
“As Virginia’s next governor, my first priority will be to ensure that the principles of fiscal conservatism and balanced, responsible budgets are the rules by which government functions in the Commonwealth,” said Wilder. “Accordingly, I thought it appropriate that my first cabinet appointment and agency selection be the two individuals who will have the day to day responsibility for implementing the state’s fiscal and budgetary policies.”
Earlier last week. Wilder announced the appointment of J.T. Shropshire, the clerk of the Senate, to serve as his chief of staff.
