I he Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Center’s Family Guidance Services provides emergency services and crisis intervention 24 hours a day, every day of the year, in the counties of Planning District 9: Culpeper, Orange, Madison, Rappahannock and Fauquier.
There is an outpatient clinic in each of the five counties that provides emergency services to its respective community during regular working hours. At all other times, an experienced team of emergency services workers is available. There is always a counselor, an administrator and a psychiatrist on call.
Emergency services is one of the highest priorities in a broad continuum of services that the Family Guidance clinics provide. The crisis intervention system is designed to be accesible and responsive to many community needs.
On-going clients often utilize the system for support, for assistance with medication problems, or to help them cope with a difficult day. The lpcal sheriffs, magistrates and hospi' tals rely on the system for emergency hospitalizations, evaluations and consultations and for assistance defusing crisis situations.
Upon the advice of a member of the Family Guidance Services’ emergency team that a person is mentally ill and in need of hospitalization, a magistrate can issue a Temporary Detention Order which requires that they be detained in a safe, secure and approved hospital setting until a court hearing can be held.
