1 ne Kappahannock Lions Club is known for contributing its services to worthy projects throughout the county.
It is also developing a reputation or contributing those resources to other community organizations in need of assistance. Last summer, it made a donation to the Washington Volunteer Fire Department after the company’s major fundraiser, First Washington’s Fourth of July, w’as spoiled by torrential downpours.
More recently, a group of the county’s Lions has lent its assistance to the Rappahannock Loan Closet, helping to refurbish the group’s storage building in Washington. They insulated the concrete-block building, put up partitions and drywall, then painted the interior of the storage space.
According to the Loan Closet’s Dot Mank, the Lions worked throughout an entire day, insulating and caulking cracks in the old cinder blocks, “doing whatever was necessary to give us a finished space. The Lions are truly communityminded. Without their willing and able help, much of what has been done could not have been accomplished.”
The new storage area, Mrs. Mank said, “will enable us to make space for items formerly crowded together, as well as to allow for the storage of additional hospital aids formerly stored in members’ homes.”
