Costumes and fine food, carriage and pony rides, crafts and entertainment are all part of the Fourth of July celebration in Washington, Virginia each year — highlighted with the reports from the aerial display of colors showering down from the evening’s fireworks display above Avon Pond.
Funseekers usually arrive several hours before the fireworks display, however, to epjoy the evening program of entertainment which begins at 6 p.m. This year it will include a group of Arabian horses and costumed riders, music and games for children organized by the Child Care and Learning Center.
But the fun begins long before the evening program — at 10 a.m., in fact, according to Washington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Roger Roach. The day’s activities are sponsored by the fire department as its major fundraiser of the year.
