Bom and raised in the mountains of western North Carolina, the Rev. Bare is excited about returning to similar territory here. “I’m very grateful and gratified to be a part of this church here.” And, he added, his wife’s family still lives in Dale City.
Asked about how he came to Washington, the pastor’s reply was concise: “God did it. Last fall, I felt the need to resume a full-time pastorship.” He interviewed with Ray Pollard, who serves as the liasion between the Virginia Baptist Association and local pulpit committees, which direct the search for new pastors. He brought the Rev. Bare’s name to the attention of the committee at Washington Baptist.
His first impressions of the church, the community and the county “are all good,” Rev. Bare reported.
His immediate goal, he said, is “to form a relationship with the members of the congregation; to seek their dreams for the church . . . rather than to impose a dream from outside.
“You have to learn to be someone’s pastor,” Rev. Bare explained, “you don’t just show up and be one.”
He said he hopes to provide a “responsive, needs-based program,” both in terms of the congregation
