James V. DeBergh

James Van Lowen DeBergh, 74, of Front Royal, died June 24 in Warren Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service was held June 27 at 10 a.m. at Rivermont Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery at Pleasant View Farm in Washington.

Mr. DeBergh was bom May 26, 1916, in Brattleboro, Vt., the son of the late Randolph Rutherford and Elizabeth Harris DeBergh. He was a 1939 graduate of Virginia Tech. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pa*cific Theaters. After the war he entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served at various stations in the United States and abroad. He retired in 1962 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Mr. DeBergh was associated .'with the Griffin-Touhey Company in ;Sturgeon Bay, Wise, and then with ;the Old Virginia Inc. in Front Royal. He was the owner of a Chilly Willy franchise.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Rebekah Major DeBergh; two sons, James Van Lowen DeBergh Jr. of Washington and Richard Randolph DeBergh of Winchester; one daughter, Rebekah Russell DeBergh Green of Leesburg; one brother, John Randolph DeBergh of Washington; and eight grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Hartwell Perry, Henry Downing, Dr. Edwin Eastham, O.A. Norton, Benjamin R. Lacy III, John L. Major and Alexander J. Green Jr.

Arrangements were handled by .Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.

Mrs. Ada Jenkins Compton Hitt of Rixeyville, died June 25 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hitt was bom February 17, ■ 1900 in Sperryville, the daughter of the late Henry Amos Jenkins and Nancy Mildred Burke. ! She is survived by two sons, William Luther Compton of Rixeyville and Junior Lee Compton of Culpeper; one daughter, Mrs. Aldean
