was an instant hit and the ice cream cone was bom!

This story of how the ice cream cone was invented is just one of many associated with the history of ice cream. The freezing process was simplified in 1846 when a freezer with rotary paddles was invented, which kept the product smooth while freezing. This new freezer stimulated the manufacture of ice cream in large quantities for selling in retail stores and restaurants. In 1851, the first wholesale ice cream was manufactured in Baltimore.

The ice cream sundae was developed around the turn of the century.
