The legislation is in Conference Committee where differences between the House and the Senate versions of the bill will be resolved. H.R. 1465 will establish a comprehensive plan for the prevention and clean up of oil spills, and clarify procedures for the recovery of damages resulting from oil spills.
In the aftermath of oil spills, uncertainty and confusion over how to cope with emergency situations have led me to support the drafting of a blueprint. At this point, however, the Conference Committee remains deadlocked over a portion of H.R. 1465 which is critical to the effectiveness of any proposal to prevent future oil spills in vital waterways.
