There’s a new pastor in the pulpit at Washington Baptist Church.
The Rev. Darrell Bare preached his first sermon last Sunday, assuming the pastorship which has been vacant since the Rev. Larry Hovis left last year.
Rev. Bare, 32, was most recently the pastor of Youngsville Christian Church in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
A graduate of Gardner-Webb College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion in 1979, the Rev. Bare attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, and was graduated in 1982. He served in both full-time and interim pastorships at several churches before taking up his duties at Youngstown Christian Church.
“I’m glad to be back into a fulltime ministry,” Rev. Bare said, “rather than trying to divide myself’ between a pastorship and a job outside the church.
The Rev. Bare and his family, wife Dawn and two daughters, Emily, 7, and Evan, 3 1/2, moved to Washington earlier this month. “The congregation was very gracious in waiting some weeks after the decision was made to allow Emily to finish out the school year in Wake Forest.”
