We are seeking individuals to audit a variety of businesses in order to verify their liability for sales, income, withholding and other taxes. Reviews and analyzes journals, ledgers, financial statements and other fiscal documents. Prepares audit reports which may recommend additional tax liability or refund. Explains tax laws, rules and regulations to taxpayers. QUALIFICATIONS: Working knowledge of accounting and auditing; some knowledge of Virginia business tax regulations and procedures (including sales and use) and personal computer applications. Demonstrated ability to write reports based on examination of financial records; gain cooperation by being firm, persistent, direct and cordial; communicate effectively by providing proof of the validity of conclusions, persuading others of findings, resolving differences of opinion and explaining procedures. Indicate position numbers C0496, 608 and 843 on application. Starting salary effective July 1, 1990 - $27,538. Salary range is $27,538 - $42,047. The selected applicants will be prohibited from performing tax or accounting services for compensation outside of normal working responsibilities. Will be required to provide own transportation in order to travel extensively within assigned geographic area on a daily basis; mileage reimbursement according to Virginia Travel Regulations.
