News of the most recent oil tanker incident off the coast of Texas once again focuses national attention on the importance of balancing American’s energy security with protection of fragile environmental resources. Despite the difficulty of maintaining this precarious balance, we must begin to examine ways to more safely transport oil and other energy sources.
The safe transport of oil and other energy sources is a prime concern for legislators and environmentalists. Right now, the Congress is working on a compromise bill, which I supported, known as the Oil Pollution, Prevention, Response, Liability and Compensation Act.
