“I like to remember a person’s name and face,” she said, adding that if nothing else charms the customer, friendliness can bring them back again.
“I just wish I could send a card of appreciation to all the people in Flint Hill who have helped me along,” Mrs. Settle said with sincerity, addihg most of her “regulars” come from the Flint Hill area though she hopes other Rappahannock diners will visit soon.
With dinners — even those of prime-rib or fresh seafood every budget, even those of retired or working persons, offering yet another option for dining in Rappahannock County.
Mrs. Settle and Mr. Taylor prepare all the food. “I love to cook, here,” Mrs. Settle laughed, adding at home her interest waned and she resorts to fast food.
Her culinary talents are diverse. Her menu offers a variety of items from fried, to pasta or Italian dishes, to fresh seafood, delicately prepared, or steaks, fresh cut on the premise and prepared to the diner’s taste.
“I buy just enough for the weekend,” Mrs. Settle said of her fresh meat and seafood selection, adding sauces and other dishes are prepared beforehand.
“Fast food has put a crunch on regular restaurants,” Mrs. Settle said with worry. “People don’t like to wait more than a few minutes for their food; but for it to be right, sometimes you must. ”
Pushing the clock and the other difficulties that come with any new eating establishments, Mrs. Settle is determined to find perfection.
“We have few complaints,” she said with pride, adding that only once does there need to be a complaint to make business suffer. “Word of mouth advertisement is the best you can have, in this business,” she said.
Her goal for perfection, her fine food and sociable setting, will keep Lom-Bar-Dy’s staff busy. “Some people say I need a bigger place,” Mrs. Settle laughed, adding “I just tell them, ‘No, I don’t.’”
