Seventh District Congressman D. ' French Slaughter jr. will visit Rappahannock County on Saturday, July 7 for a town meeting with his constituents. Mr. Slaughter will be at the county courthouse in Washington at 1:30 p.m. County residents are invited to come and speak with Mr. Slaughter about matters pending before the Congress, or issues involving the Federal government. Members of Mr. Slaughter's staff will also be available to speak with residents privately if they prefer. "One of my most important responsibilities as your Congressman is to help you to cut through the red tape of bureaucracies that can be both overwhelming and intimidating," Congressman Slaughter said.
‘Image*’show opens July 7
An opening reception for the "Images of$appdhannock" show at the Middle l Stop Gallery in Washington will be held f Saturday, July 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The
exhibition includes photographs, sculpture, drawings and collages depicting life in Rappahannock County. It was juried by Bill Christenberry, Professor of Art at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. The show will hang through July. Regular gallery hours are Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and by appointment.
Egg cartons recycled
County residents interested in ' recycling cardboard egg cartons may drop them off at Mountainside Market in , i Wash ington, where they wi 11 be col lected for Miriam Harris of Over Jordan Farm in t Huntly. Only cardboard caitons are being collected, the blown foam cartons are not being recycled through this effort.
Recycling meeting July 10 ;
The Virginia Department of Waste Management will sponsor a public meeting on waste management and recycling in Warrenton on July 10 at the John Barton Payne Building from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The public meeting is part of a twp-day workshop for local government officials cosponsored by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission, in cooperation with DWM. The workshop is one of a series of regional meetings designed to assist local governments in - implementing plans to meet the waste management and recycling mandates legislated by the state. The state will require localities to recycle at a rate of 10 percent in 1991,15 percent by 1993 and 25 percent by 1995, according to DWM Director Cynthia Bailey.
