Slaughter’s refusal to attend Nelson Mandela’s Speech before a joint session of Congress on the grounds that Mandela advocates violence as a last resort in his people’s struggle for political freedom makes me ashamed that he “represents” me in Congress. His stand on South Africa alone should give voters, especially black voters, pause in November, when it is time to consider whether to return Mr. Slaughter to Congress.
