Fitness. A physical exam is required within six months of initial employment.
To get the permit, the three certification forms must be taken by the child accompanied by his or her parent, guardian or custodian to an issuing officer. Acceptable evidence of age such as a birth certificate, baptismal record, passport of driver’s license must be shown to verify the child is of age to perform the job.
• Hours of Work: Virginia law states that 14 and 15-year-olds cannot be employed more than eight hours a day, six days a week, 40 hours a week, and must have a 30minute rest or meal period after five hours of continuous work. Work cannot begin before 7 a.m., or later than 9 p.m. between June 1 and Labor Day. When school re-opens, working past 7 p.m. on school nights is prohibited.
