I have a difficult time understanding how some politicians, including our own Representative French Slaughter, can condemn the African National Congress members in South Africa as “terrorists” for endorsing armed struggle in their quest for political liberation, having praised previously the Contras in Nicaragua as “freedom fighters” for the very same tactics.

I agree with South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who stated in an interview: “How could I commend nonviolence to Blacks who know that resistance movements in Europe (against Nazi Germany) were praised to the skies, and who
