On Saturday, April 21, the Virginia Governmental Employees’ Association held its 31st annual meeting. Guest speaker was Lt. Governor Donald Beyer, who is one of The Virginia Governmental Employees’ Association’s newest members. Mr. Beyer’s topic at the VGEA annual meeting was: “A Drug Free Workplace: State Employees as Model”.
During this 31st annual VGEA meeting, Culpeper resident, Donna Lynn Rector, a Commonwealth employee for 11 years, was elected to a seat on the Virginia Governmental Employee’s Association State Board of Directors, to fill one of seven Director-at-large positions for a term of three years. Ms. Rector will represent state employees in the Culpeper District area.
Ms. Rector’s family hails from Rappahannock County, where she still has relatives living in Sperryville.
Ms. Rector urges all Virginia State employeese to consider membership in the Virginia Governmental Employee’s Association. At present the Commonwealth employs 90,000 individuals, of those 90,000 only 15,000 are VGEA members.
“VGEA’s goal for 1990 is to increase our membership, to 20,000 voices” says Ms. Rector, “VGEA is the only employee association that Commonwealth employees can utilize to pursue benefits and express employee concerns before legislature.”
