Rappahannock sixth graders did not do as well as the state average on the literacy passport, which is required of all public school students entering ninth grade, but they did outperform sixth-graders in all the surrounding counties except Fauquier.
Statewide 65.1 percent of sixth graders passed all three portions of the test. For Rappahannock that figure was 59.3 percent. In Fauquier 60.8 percent passed. Culpeper saw 56 percent of their sixth graders passing. For Madison, Page and Warren counties the figures were 39.1 percent, 54.6 percent and 54.5 percent respectively.
