Mary A. McCarthy
Mary Abigail McCarthy, 41, of Branford, Conn, died July 28 of cancer.
She had been undergoing treatment for the past year at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.
Miss McCarthy was born in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Harvard University and attended Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
She received her law degree from New York University and did advance studies in law at Georgetown University Law School in Washington, D.C.
She was a professor of law at the Yale University Law School, beginning her teaching career at Yale in 1982 as a supervising attorney and a lecturer in clinical studies after a period as a public defender in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by her parents, Sen. and Mrs. Eugene McCarthy of Woodville and Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Ellen Howell of Washington, D.C. and Margaret McCarthy of Boston; and one brother, Michael McCarthy of Seattle, Wash.
Graveside services were held at the Woodville Cemetery on July 31 with Father Timothy Brown of Baltimore, Md. officiating. Mr. John Jackson sang.
Ruth Preston
Ruth Ellen Preston, 81, of Washington died July 12 at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Preston was born September 22, 1908 in Washington, D.C. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Paul H. Preston; a son, John H. Preston of Washington; a sister, Bernice Crowder of Everett, Washington;
