Donna Slack, the 16-yearold
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Slack of Baltimore, Md., received the award for the best appearing majoriette at the Flint Hill carnival parade last Thursday and recently placed first also in the Sperryville parade. She is the niece of Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Clark of Washington. Donna has been twirling batons for seven years, traveling into many states for contests. She has received over 550 awards for individual performances and numerous group awards.
A picnic was held on the lawn of the Slate Mills Baptist Church at 6:30 Friday evening for the Bible School pupils, teachers and friends. Following the picnic, a service was held in the church, when children who completed the course were presented certificates. Fifty-four were enrolled with a daily average attendance of 33.

Red Oak Mountain Sunday, August 10, at 4:30 p.m. Lee Payne will lead the ride and anyone interested is invited to attend. Directions: From Sperryville take Route 522 South and turn left onto Route 618 in Woodville. Go one mile to first driveway on the left.
Anyone interested in donating food to the Amissville Ladies Auxiliary for the carnival next week should contact Mrs. Charlie Compton, 937-4096. Food is needed each night but it is especially needed for the box suppers August 14.
