the 266 farms in Rappahannock County amounted to $4.1 million or an average of $15,295 each, up from $3.6 million in 1974 with an accompanying increase in production costs, according to a preliminary report of the 1978 Census of Agriculture released today by the Bureau of the Census, U.S. Department of Commerce.
A special membership meeting of the Rappahannock Farmers Market will be held Thursday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Courthouse in Washington. Discussion will center around quantity of produce, finances and the future of the Market. Others interested are welcome to attend.

Rain and high winds blasted
through the county last Thursday, leaving uprooted trees and barns, a power outage, one broken hip, and gardens that looked like tossed salads. In the span of about 20 minutes, winds raged in excess of 50 mph and buckets of rain drenched the county. Amid rumors of tornado sightings, the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Greene County, destroying several homes. The weather service would not confirm reports by residents of Rappahannock County that a tornado passed through this area.
Margaret McCarthy was one of 74 students awarded a doctor of veterinary medicine (D.V.M.) degree by the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) during exercises held last month at Virginia Tech.
