Middle street Gallery this week announced the resignation of Director Janet Bouffard, who is leaving to begin a new enterprise in Sperryville called “Touch the Earth.”
“Ms. Bouffard leaves Middle Street with a new organizational structure in place that greatly increases the efficient operation of the Artists’ Cooperative and a higher degree of professionalism in the Gallery’s communication with the public,” according to a statement released by the Gallery.
Her Sperryville storefront on Main Street will be a spiritual center, focusing on Native American studies, nature walks, crafts classes and spiritual art. The Gallery is taking Ms. Bouffard’s resignation as an opportunity to redefine the priorities of its part-time director’s position, the statement added.
Middle Street Gallery has a newly elected Board of Directors, including Tanya Richey, president; Maggi Morris, vice-president; Dianne Waldron, secretary; Lois Manookian, treasurer; with Dan Lewis and Linda Ramer as at-large members.
The Gallery has been awarded a $12,000 grant from the Virginia Commission of the Arts for a director’s salary and operating expenses from July 1, 1990 to June 31, 1991. These funds do not go to individual artists. They go to run the only nonprofit visual arts center in a seven county region.
