Interim Headmistress Pamela Lynn surprised the Wakefield Country Day School (CDS) community by presenting to librarian Grace White a check for $15,000 donated to the school library by Clifford H. Brandt of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
After jokingly asking Mrs. White, the grandmother of students Jacob and David Foster, and substitute or temporary librarian, if she were inclined to faint, Mrs. Lynn explained the. unique circumstances of the gift.
Clifford H. Brandt is the grandfather of three Wakefield Country Day School students, Two, Caroline, a senior, and David, an 8th grader, are presently at the school, while Clifford Brandt Jr., in whose name the gift was given, was graduated from the Huntly location last year.
Clifford Jr. was involved in what the doctors predicted would be a fatal automobile accident near Roanoke last October. As word of this calamity was passed at a school soccer game only hours later, a decided hush fell over the crowd as they remembered Clifford’s spirited participation in a hard-fought game on that same field only a year earlier at Homecoming.
