The Rappahannock Garden Club and Rappahannock Extension Office are pleased to announce the winners in the 1992 Smokey Bear Poster Contest which they co-sponsored last month. Members of the 4-H Junior Garden Club and Amissville 4-H Club participated for a total of 15 entries.
The winners in each age category are:
Grade K-2, Sam Rust; Grade 3-5, Megan Fairbrother; Grade 6-8, Chanta Brown; and Grade 9-12, John Mallory.
The four first-place winners have been submitted to the state contest. The remaining posters are on display at the Rappahannock Library through March 15.
The Rappahannock Garden Club is once again offering the Francis J. Leonard Memorial Scholarship to graduating Rappahannock High seniors for the purpose of continuing their education.
Two grants—one for $1,500, the other for $400—-will go to students enrolling in a college or university, a community college, vocational or technical school or taking an acceptable training program to prepare for a career.
Applicants must be Rappahannock County residents, members of this year’s graduating class, accepted by an accredited school and must have a need for financial assistance. Applicants must also be recommended by three non-relative residents of Rappahannock County.
Applications are available at the Guidance Office in the high school. Completed applications must be re turned to the Guidance Department by Wednesday, April 15.
