With such a dismal prognosis all present agreed that the only help available to Clifford was prayer. In an odd tidal wave of emotion, word spread of Clifford’s dance with death until totally unrelated groups as far away as Virginia Beach were praying for him.
In his donation letter Clifford Brandt Sr. wrote, “When I met the doctor who so brillitantly operated (on) him he said exactly this, ‘Mr. Brandt, I know I operated (on) your grandson Clifford, but someone was guiding my fingers.’ In sending my contribution to Wakefield (CDS) I am also thanking God for having given back to me my grandson.”
Mrs. Lynn announced the establishing of the Clifford Brandt Sr. and Jr. Collection with a plaque and individual book plates to tentatively read “Given by Clifford H. Brandt in celebration of the survival of his grandson Clifford Brandt Jr. from a near-fatal accident. Gratias Deo.”
Mrs. Lynn noted that this gift will provide the kind of library she and her husband, Bill Lynn, cofounders of Wakefield School, had always dreamed of for their classical program. Mrs. Lynn extended thanks to the entire Brandt family.
