Exchange talk Ki Theatre will feature sculptor Frederick E. Hart
I in a program held at Mr. Hart’s newly built studio on his estate in Hume at 7:30 p.m. March 15. The event is the third evening of a four part series presented by Ki Theatre, called “The Exchange,” which features the visual and performance work of area artists followed by dialogue with the audience. Mr. Hart, whose work has been called “without question the imqor architectural sculpture of our day” by Horizon and “one of the last major milestones in this ‘stonecarving’ vanishing art” by the Christian Science Monitor, will open the evening by showing a collection I of his work. Mr. Hart, who is recognized as one of the foremost living sculptors, attended University of South Carolina, Corcoran School of Art, and American University. | After serving a variety of apprenticeships with I world famous sculptors, Mr. Hart opened his own sculpture studio in 1972, executing sculptures on comi mission. I In 1974 he was awarded a large commission to do
!the entire west facade sculpture at the main entrance of the National Catedral, three life-size statues and three relief panels, a commission that took about 10 years to j complete. He has created works ranging from a processional cross for Pope John Paul II to a bronze bust of James Webb, former NASA Administrator, for the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institute. In 1982 he was commissioned to create the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial sculpture, “Three Fightingmen.” He was appointed by Ronald Reagan to the ComI
mission of Fine Arts, was appointed as a member of the Sacred Arts Commission for the Catholic Archdiocese f of Washington, D.C., and is the recipient of many awards.
