Discipline problems
A survey of parents that was released earlier this school year revealed that a number of them are concerned about the level of consistency shown by building administrators while meting out discipline.
Mrs. Massie, however, was upbeat about how the school division has handled disciplinary matters. “I don’t think our discipline problems are any worse than anywhere else, and I imagine they’re less,” she said.
But she added that the appearance of a lack of fairness is itself a problem. “It does give me a concern when people think there is inconsistency,” she said.
She said in-house suspension, new this year, is a positive change and offers administrators another alternative. The Rappahannock school division would not have been able to afford it except that it received a grant this year.
